Toronto Star reporters get mandatory training after newspaper publishes false allegations about MPP

Toronto Star reporters will get mandatory training on fairness and due diligence after the newspaper had published false allegations that Ontario MPP Margarett Best vacationed in Mexico while on medical leave. It issued a rare apology on its front page, citing an "egregious lapse of the Star's standards."

Newspapers Canada considering a national press council

Newspapers Canada is considering a plan put forth by the Ontario Press Council to establish a national press council. The decision comes after a Ryerson University study on the state of press councils in Canada, which concluded the press councils were ineffective in their present form and did not meet the geographical and digital realities of the publishing industry.
