NSTU and NSCC reach tentative agreement for professional support members
HALIFAX, May 31, 2013 /CNW/ - The Nova Scotia Teachers Union and Nova Scotia Community College have reached a tentative collective agreement on behalf of professional support staff, NSTU members employed by the College. During the evening of May 30, the NSTU provincial executive recommended acceptance of the tentative agreement. The professional support bargaining unit includes some 150 professionals such as registrars, librarians, counsellors, student support workers and training coordinators at NSCC campuses across Nova Scotia.
"We are pleased to have reached a tentative agreement for our professional support staff members, says NSTU president Shelley Morse. "I congratulate the diligent work of both sides in reaching this agreement."
Professional support staff representatives will be given details of the agreement on June 1. A ratification vote has been set for June 11, 2013.
The Nova Scotia Teachers Union represents more than 10,000 public school teachers, Community College faculty and professional support staff in Nova Scotia, and teachers who work for the Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Since 1895, it has worked to improve the quality of public education for children and youth in Nova Scotia, while promoting and advancing the teaching profession.
