NSTU Disappointed with NSCC Layoffs
HALIFAX, April 16, 2012 /CNW/ - Eight CollegePrep Coordinators are losing their current positions as the Nova Scotia Community College responds to the recent provincial budget. The college must address a $5.37 million shortfall due to rising costs associated with wages and inflation, as well as a modest reduction to its base operating grant.
These coordinators work as liaisons between the college and junior/senior high schools to encourage students to stay in school, understand their opportunities after graduation, and provide information to students for career planning.
They are members of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union Professional Support staff bargaining unit.
The NSTU is working with the NSCC to try and find other opportunities for the coordinators who are currently located at eight different campuses throughout Nova Scotia.
