IQALUIT, NU, May 29, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Nunavut Sealink and Supply Inc. (NSSI) is proud to announce that our Company has been selected by the Government of Nunavut (GN) to provide sealift services to 25 of the total 26 communities populating the Qikiqtani, Kivalliq and Kitikmeot Areas. This GN award stems from the recent results of its Request for Proposal for Arctic Resupply of Dry Cargo, and the long-term GN/NSSI Agreement is effective as of 2012 sealift season. "This extremely successful NSSI bid confirms our Company's undeniable status of leading sealift carrier in Nunavut", declared Daniel Desgagnés, NSSI's Managing Director.
NSSI provides cargo services to all Nunavut communities, as well as to the great majority of the mining projects and a variety of other project sites in Nunavut. NSSI will continue to service its clients in Iqaluit with the customary frequency and reliability. "We value our customers' loyalty and patronage. Whether our services are provided under the GN Agreement or an individual carriage contract, we always make sure that every NSSI customer benefits from the most reliable service, the best operational support and a competitive rate'', commented Mr. Desgagnés on how Iqaluit customers will also continue to be well serviced by NSSI, beyond the new GN/NSSI blanket Agreement.
With the 2012 sealift operations now in motion, cargo carriage to all destination communities will be for the most loaded at the Company dock facilities in Ste-Catherine, located south of Montreal, along the St. Lawrence Seaway. Additionally, NSSI's successful services Exit Port of Churchill, such as those completed by our Company during the 2011 season under the special one-year Agreement with the GN, will be maintained, again with the collaboration of the Churchill-based 'Nunavut Connections'. The Kivalliq Communities and their sealift users will therefore continue to benefit from the Manitoba Corridor sourcing option and from a reliable sealift service from Churchill, which henceforth are included under the GN/NSSI long-term Agreement.
Waguih Rayes, General Manager of Desgagnés Transarctik Inc., the Managing Partner, reminds us that the successful NSSI partnership, which was initially pioneered by ACL and Desgagnés Transarctik, is from now on enhanced by a recent joint announcement at the 2012 Iqaluit Mining Symposium. ''We welcome and appreciate the decision made by Qikiqtaluk Corporation and Sakku Investment Corporation to join the NSSI partnership, and we value it as an indicator of preference… It suggests an acknowledgement of NSSI's compatibility with QC and Sakku's grass-root corporate values'', said Mr. Rayes.
