VANCOUVER, Nov. 21, 2013 /CNW/ - Moshe Safdie has had a storied career as an architect. The Israeli-born, Canadian-raised, and Boston-based practitioner is the cover subject for NUVO's 15th anniversary issue, on newsstands now. From his elegant, ivy-covered office studio in Massachusetts, the silver-haired architect spent time with contributor Christopher Hume recounting his near 50-year career in pursuit of "inherent buildability". Writes Hume: "Safdie can unquestionably claim his place in the pantheon of architectural greats … his career was launched in spectacular fashion when Habitat '67, the revolutionary housing complex he designed based upon his undergraduate thesis [for McGill University] was constructed as part of Expo 67."

NUVO, Canada's premier lifestyle quarterly, celebrates its 15th anniversary with this winter issue. "We decided that the magazine's 15 years should be reflected in this issue but that it should not dominate it," says editor Claudia Cusano. A 10-page retrospective is showcased—a selection of portraiture that has appeared within our pages over the years—and NUVOmagazine.com will feature a weekly anniversary series that will bring to life past stories. The anniversary issue has a new look as art director Mark Reynolds has reinterpreted the NUVO package. "The bones are as strong as ever," says Claudia, "the skin refreshed and revitalized with an envious glow".
Founder and publisher Pasquale Cusano reflects on his 15 years of publishing: "I have made it our mandate to consistently give young people with little formal experience the opportunity to work at NUVO. As I tell the team, NUVO is the stage—now how are you going to perform? We laugh, we fight, we eat, we share espressos, we create, we experiment, but only together can we send each issue out."
Other 15th anniversary issue stories include: New York-based artist Nir Hod; interior design firm Yabu Pushelberg; Rémy Martin's Louis XIII Cognac; MB&F timepieces; chef David Hawksworth of Hawksworth Restaurant in Vancouver; the Caves resort in Negril, Jamaica; and London-based mixologist Tony Conigliaro.
The winter 2013 issue of NUVO is available at select Chapters and Indigo locations across Canada from November 18 to February 23, 2014.
