OEB issues rate order on 2009 electricity distribution rates for Canadian
Niagara Power Inc.'s Port Colborne service area

TORONTO , Oct. 28 /CNW/ - Today the Ontario Energy Board (the Board) issued a Rate Order to reflect its amended Decision on 2009 electricity distribution rates for Canadian Niagara Power Inc.'s (CNPI) Port Colborne service area. The new rates are effective May 1, 2009 , but will not be implemented until November 1, 2009 .

As a result of this Rate Order, the bill associated with the cost to distribute electricity for a typical residential customer using 1,000 kWh per month will increase by approximately $10.30 per month.

CNPI requested a revenue requirement of $5,969,947 for the 2009 rate year. As a result of the Board's Decision, CNPI's approved rates for the Port Colborne service area will recover a forecasted revenue requirement of $5,528,553 .

In its Decision, the Board accepted CNPI's proposals which included increased capital expenditures required to replace aging distribution system infrastructure.

The Board also reduced operations, maintenance and administration costs by $466,000 .
