MONTREAL, Aug. 12, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - After a record-breaking year in 2012, Montréal Pride, presented by TD, is back for a 7th edition from Monday, August 12, to Sunday, August 18. This year, the program is bigger and more varied than ever, with free shows and activities at Place Émilie-Gamelin, LGBT human rights conferences, cultural and community events as well as lots of exciting parties.
The important Community Day will be held on Saturday, August 17, along Sainte-Catherine Street in the Montréal's Gay Village. The flagship event of the week's festivities, the Pride Parade, presented by Viagra, will be held on Sunday, August 18, at 1 pm on René-Lévesque, starting at Guy Street and ending at Sanguinet. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the creation of the rainbow flag, the rallying symbol of the LGBT movement. To mark this milestone, the 2013 Parade theme will be, "Our Flag, Our Life: ROUGE", inspired by the first colour of the flag, red, symbolizing life.
Today, Montréal Pride officially launched its 7th edition at a press conference at the Delta Centre-Ville Hotel in Montréal, hosted by official spokesperson, Mr. Jasmin Roy. Mr. Éric Pineault, president of Montréal Pride, Mr. David Pinsonneault, Senior Vice President, Business Banking, Québec and Atlantic and Co-chair, Québec Market, TD Bank Group, and Ms. Jane Cowell-Poitras, Deputy Mayor and member of the agglomeration council, representing the Mayor of Montréal, Laurent Blanchard, were present for the launch, as were the Honorary Co-Presidents, Gilbert Baker, Jej Perfekcyjność and Dr. Karine Igartua and Guests of Honour, Nicolas Vandal, Vicky Lauzon and Maude Chartrand Paquette.
Michel Tremblay, DJ Mini, Claudette Dion, Yoland Sirard, Mario Lirette, Monique Saintonge, Michel Stax, Pierre Perpall, Émily Bégin, Guillaume Lemay-Thivièrge, Andrée-Anne Leclerc, Andie Duquette, Jason Roy Léveillé, Marc Angers, Jean-Sébastien Lavoie, Julie Anne Saumur, Richard Gauthier, Michel Dorion, Chouchoune and actors from the play, "Bonjour ivresse !" were also present to speak about the various activities in which they will be participating during the festival.
