Official Launch of Tremblant's 24h - 2017 Edition - Making tracks toward new records for the children! Français
MONTREAL, Oct. 13, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - The mood was upbeat last night at Cirque Éloize de Montréal, where personalities from the arts and sports worlds mingled with participants dedicated to supporting children's causes. All were on hand for the official kick-off of the 17th edition of Tremblant's 24h, which takes place this December 8 to 10.
Over the past 16 years, Tremblant's 24h has raised more than 24 million dollars for the foundations that receive funds from the event and use them to help thousands of sick and underprivileged children. Expectations are high this year for yet another record fundraising total. With just two months to go before the big weekend, we've seen a community more vigorously mobilized than ever, with 326 teams already registered for the event, compared with 304 who took the challenge in 2016! In spite of this astounding figure, there are still spots open for anyone interested in signing up for the adventure.
Tremblant's 24h: Children's causes first
With each passing year, the donation tallies have grown in leaps and bounds; since 2003, more than $10 million in proceeds have been remitted to Fondation Charles-Bruneau in support of its various research and treatment projects for children with cancer at the Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau at the Sainte-Justine CHU and throughout Quebec.
The meaningful contribution made by the 24h supports advances in medical research and has, notably, helped bring the remission rate from 30% to 80% - even achieving 98% for some types of cancer. Tremblant's 24h reiterates its continued commitment to future projects undertaken by Fondation Charles-Bruneau.
The event's beneficiary in the Gatineau-Ottawa region, the Ottawa Senators Foundation, has for its part received proceeds of more than $3 million since 2006 in support of its mission to give children and youth the means to unlock their full potential through a host of wonderful social, recreational, and educational programs designed to foster physical and mental well-being.
Tremblant's 24h is also keen on giving back to its own region by supporting Fondation Tremblant. Over the years, more than $2 million has been donated to Fondation Tremblant to fund numerous activities designed to support underprivileged children and help them enjoy a better quality of life.
"This year, Tremblant's 24h wants to go even further. In our quest to support children's causes, the event continues to grow, as we demonstrate proudly with our newest grant: a $125,000 donation for the creation of a social pediatrics clinic in Ste-Agathe, to be led by the CISSS," said Simon St-Arnaud, executive producer of Tremblant's 24h. "We are firm believers in community involvement – supporting our own local area and meeting the real needs of the various communities."
An exciting schedule of events
Several exhilarating shows are planned throughout the event weekend. Once again this year, the Saturday night concert at the base of the slopes will feature Mélissa Lavergne and her guests in an evening of great music that is sure to have everyone up and dancing. Capping the night's entertainment: none other than the internationally renowned band Simple Plan, which will close out the concert before an audience that's expected to number in the thousands.
Motivated by the children!
As always, the 24h counts on the support and presence of many devoted ambassadors. This year, expect to see Benoit Gagnon, Philippe Fehmiu, Anne-Marie Withenshaw, Erik Guay, Lianne Laing, Stuntman Stu, Alexandre Bilodeau, Alexandre Despatie, Dominic Arpin, Frédéric Plante and Yanick Bouchard at the event, uniting their voices to the 24h's so that all children might achieve their hopes and dreams.
A new presenter
The 24h is pleased to announce an important new partnership. Freedom 55 Financial is now the Tremblant's 24h official presenter and confirms its on-the-ground participation with 25 teams already registered for the challenge and the donation drive. "Our Quebec team has for several years supported this important fundraiser," said Abbie MacMillan, Vice-president, Freedom 55 Financial. "As event presenter, we are eager to grow our involvement and help bring meaningful change to the lives of many children."
We also want to mention the essential and hugely appreciated participation of our many sponsors and major donors, including our collaborator TELUS, as well as other loyal partners Brookfield Renewable, Helly Hansen, Kombi, Boréale, Air Transat, Van Houtte, Coca-Cola, Schneider Electric, Adviso and Mont-Tremblant Resort. Furthermore, the 24h would not have achieved the reputation it enjoys today were it not for such media partners as Bell Média, L'Artographe, Newad, La Presse, TACT Intelligence-conseil and Cision.
Tremblant's 24h by the numbers
Since 2001, over $24 million has been raised for children's causes. This year, the bar has been set high: the organizers want to mobilize 350 teams in order to surpass the record set in 2016 – and raise more than $3.25 million.
About Tremblant's 24h
The 24h counts on the commitment of more than 25,000 donors annually and draws crowds of upwards of 25,000 people, among them approximately 3,000 participants, sponsors, celebrities, musicians and journalists. Tremblant's 24h is an annual sporting challenge in which teams of 6 to 12 participants work in relays for 24 hours in three categories – skiing, walking or running. Registered teams undertake a donation drive, the proceeds of which go to three major foundations dedicated to children's causes. The event also features major concerts and an array of activities throughout the weekend, making it an experience that leaves wonderful and lasting memories for all who take part.
