SAINT-ANDRÉ, QC, Sept. 11, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - The official opening of the Îlot du Coin housing project took place today, in Saint-André. The building will provide eight affordable housing units for low-income families. The development of this project, which required investments of over $1.5 million, is an initiative of the Corporation Domaine Les Pèlerins.
This is the fifth housing project completed by the Corporation Domaine Les Pèlerins, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The eight new affordable housing units all benefit from two bedrooms.
The official opening ceremony was marked today by the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. The event took place in the presence of Norbert Morin, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy and Member of the National Assembly for Côte-du-Sud, on behalf of Martin Coiteux, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy, Minister of Public Security and Minister responsible for the Montréal region; Christine Martel, Affordable Housing Consultant at Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, on behalf of the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister Responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation; and Gervais Darisse, President of the Corporation Domaine Les Pèlerins and Mayor of Saint-André.

Highlights
- Through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and the Société d'habitation du Québec (SHQ), the governments of Canada and Quebec provided more than $1.5 million for the construction of this housing project, under the Investment in Affordable Housing Agreement.
- The Municipality of Saint-André contributed $15,000 toward the development of this project.
- An amount of nearly $22,000 was granted by Transition énergétique Québec to ensure that the building would meet Novoclimat certification standards.
- Close to $69,000 in additional financial assistance over five years, assumed by the SHQ (90%) and the Municipality of Saint-André (10%), will enable the tenants of four of the eight units to benefit from the Rent Supplement program, ensuring that they will not spend more than 25% of their income on housing.
- The Regional County Municipality of Kamouraska contributed $10,000 to the development of this project.
