MONTREAL, March 18, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The Oil and Gas Services Association of Quebec (OGSAQ) announced today the second edition of the Farmer's tour in Alberta. In July, a dozen Quebec farmers will participate in this trip to Alberta to learn more about the oil and gas industry. OGSAQ is sponsoring this tour for a second consecutive year to provide an opportunity for more Quebecers to deepen their knowledge about shale gas. The participants will visit farms in Alberta that have oil and gas development on their properties. They will have an opportunity to not only witness firsthand what oil and gas sites look like, but will more importantly have an open dialogue with farmers about their experience with oil and gas development on their lands.
Albertans have exploited hydrocarbons for over 60 years and have developed appropriate legislation to meet today's environmental and regulatory needs. "We chose this destination because Alberta uses the best industry practices to exploit natural gas in the greatest respect of the environment. I believe that allowing more farmers to visit drilling sites and meet witnesses of the industry (oil and gas companies, land owners and legislators), participants will better understand the shale gas industry and dispel the myths that are conveyed in Quebec, "said Mario Lévesque, OGSAQ's president.
Last summer, all participants went back to Quebec believing that a harmonious coexistence between industry and agriculture was possible and that's why OGSAQ offers, again this year, the opportunity for several other Quebecers to see for themselves what is the reality, beyond fear and misinformation.
We invite farmers from the St. Lawrence Lowlands area interested in participating in the tour to visit the OGSAQ website at www.afspg.com under the Activities tab for more information, then contact us to complete the form.
The Oil and Gas Services Association of Quebec (OGSAQ), founded in 2011, represents more than 60 companies employing more than 5000 workers and mission is to inform Quebecers about the oil and gas industry.
