Old Tomorrow Canadian Pale Ale launching just in time for Sir John A. Macdonald's 200th birthday
TORONTO, Jan. 8, 2015 /CNW/ - With the introduction of Old Tomorrow Canadian Pale Ale (CPA), Canadians now have a new flavour of craft beer they can call their own. Slated to launch in celebration of the upcoming 200 birthday of Sir John A. Macdonald on January 11, the beer will first be available in Ontario LCBO's plus numerous restaurants and bars. Taste a beer that is inspired by the grit, determination and greatness of Canada's founding father, affectionately known by the nickname of "Old Tomorrow" for his uncanny sense of political timing and ability to achieve greatness against long odds.

"While there are a growing number of outstanding craft beer choices, there has been an absence of a distinctive yet smooth ale that Canadians can call their own," says Ian Macdonald, co-founder of Old Tomorrow Canadian Pale Ale or CPA. "We designed Old Tomorrow CPA to fill this gap with a flavour-forward, full-bodied taste that is not too bitter, making it a memorable and unique brew that is very versatile for any occasion."
The inspiration behind Old Tomorrow CPA is to pay tribute to Canada's Founding Father and the greatness of being Canadian, while leveraging the growing optimism Canadians feel about their identity.
The beer combines traditional brewing methods with fresh old world and new world malts and hops in addition to Canadian rye, carefully crafted to reflect distinctive Canadian palates. The result is a great-tasting beer with a feisty flavour off the top yet silky smoothness and just 4.9 percent alcohol. With an IBU (International Bitterness Unit) measurement of 18, Old Tomorrow is not as hoppy as India Pale Ales (IPA's) or American Pale Ales (APA's) that have 30 or more IBU's. Blended fruity notes are balanced with a subdued biscuity aroma, and its easy drinking flavour gives it broad appeal and makes it easy to pair with food or drink on its own.
Old Tomorrow is a family initiative started by Pat and Ian Macdonald, a mother-and-son team who just happen to have the same last name as Sir John A. Macdonald. They are both experienced customer-focused business partners who are as passionate about great-tasting craft beer as they are in celebrating Canadian heroes and pivotal moments in Canada's rich heritage.
The recipe was created by veteran brew master Jamie Mistry, who has extensive experience in all aspects of beer-making and who brewed popular beers like Big Wheel, Boneshaker, Buzz and 416, and Bock.
Jamie elaborated on the recipe behind Old Tomorrow CPA, "We wanted to evoke the best of English Ales to create a well-balanced yet full-bodied taste that Canadians can be proud to call their own." He added that the initial moderately hoppy flavour ends with a crisp, clean finish.
