TORONTO, Sept. 16 /CNW/ - As a proud community partner, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) is once again taking part in the nation-wide Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup initiative at 21 OLG sites across Ontario.
"OLG is working hard to reduce its environmental footprint, and we know that our employees are interested in being 'green', so this is a perfect opportunity for us and for them to give back to the communities that they live and work in," said Alex Hocevar, Senior Manager responsible for the OLG Bet On Green program.
This is the second year that OLG and its Bet On Green employee teams are participating in the event, which focuses on cleaning up the shorelines of local waterways - whether a pond, lake or river.
"We expect hundreds of OLG employees from across the province to come out in their free time to pitch in and help cleanup their community, just as they did last year," said Hocevar. "It's a true reflection of our employees and their dedication to the environment."
In 2007, OLG created its Bet On Green program, an internal initiative created to lessen the environmental impact of OLG's operations, promote environmental awareness to employees, increase green awareness among customers and become a global leader in energy-efficient gaming. Significant milestones of the program include switching seven sites to Bullfrog Power, shrinking the size of lottery tickets to reduce paper usage and the implementation of a green procurement policy for all OLG vendors.

OLG is a provincial agency responsible for province-wide lottery games and gaming facilities. Since 1975, OLG lotteries, casinos, slots, and resort casinos have generated more than $32 billion for the benefit of the Province of Ontario. Gaming proceeds support Ontario's hospitals, amateur sport, recreational and cultural activities, communities, provincial priority programs such as health care and education, and local and provincial charities and non-profit organizations through the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
