Olympic Contradiction: Canada wins B-Boying Gold while Community Contends with Underfunding
Panel Discussion: Puttin' in Work: Breaking Barriers"
TORONTO, Nov. 24, 2024 /CNW/ - Canadian, Phil Wizard, holds the first ever Olympic Gold Medal for B-Boying (2024). It's not surprising. Phil's been winning Gold on the global stage for years and Canadian Breakers are known for originality and technique. What is surprising is the lack of funding and support. Unlike our competitors, elite breakers representing Canada on the world stage report practicing in hallways. Hallways!
Unity Charity, Breaking Canada, and Flourish Wellbeing Sass invite you to the "Puttin' in Work: Breaking Barriers" panel discussion.
Event Highlights: At the event we will unveil our new, first of its kind, Breaking Sector, research report and host a discussion with a panel of active Canadian Breakers. The findings from our Canada-wide research study shed light on opportunities and challenges b-boys and b-girls face including developing as a breaker, mental health, gender inclusion, funding and geography. In keeping with hip hop culture, at the end of the panel, we'll open the floor to questions followed by a breaking cypher. Together, we'll explore recommendations on building a more accessible environment for Canada's Breaking Community to thrive.
