OMA applauds government's decision to back NDP bill, ban tanning for under 18
TORONTO, Sept. 14, 2012 /CNW/ - Ontario's doctors congratulate the McGuinty government for agreeing to work with NDP MPP, France Gelinas, to pass legislation that would ban the use of tanning beds for children under the age of 18. Ontario's doctors were the first to sound the alarm about the harmful effects of tanning beds, especially in children. Ultra violet (UV) rays in tanning beds are as dangerous as the UV rays from the sun, and exposure to these rays drastically increases the chances of getting skin cancer. We look forward to working with the government and MPP Gelinas on this important health initiative and we encourage all MPPs to support this important piece of legislation.
