Frontenac

TOWNSHIP OF NORTH FRONTENAC, ON, July 23 /CNW Telbec/ - OmniGlobe Networks and the Township of North Frontenac are pleased to announce the completion of a wireless broadband expansion that will bring essential high-speed Internet services to certain parts of the hamlets of Cloyne, Myers Cave, Ardoch and populated areas around Mazinaw, Mississagagon, Kashwakamak and Shabomeka lakes. The news follows the formal service launch that took place in Cloyne on July 15th. Ron Maguire, Township of North Frontenac Mayor and Elsa Lebey, OmniGlobe's Marketing Manager were present to celebrate this community event. The project, which is part of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) Rural Connections Broadband Program, is the result of a fruitful collaboration between OmniGlobe Networks, the Township of North Frontenac, and the OMAFRA.

Set in the heart of the Eastern Ontario's cottage country, North Frontenac is a vast district of picturesque lakes and spectacular landscapes. It is the largest of the Frontenac Townships in terms of land area and has a year-round population of over 2,000. There is an additional seasonal population of 5,800 residents.

"Broadband connectivity is a critical factor, particularly in remote and rural communities," said Elsa Lebey. "This project is really about improving the quality of life for those who require high-speed Internet, whether it be for remaining connected to their workplace, operating their home-based business, or simply staying in touch with family and friends."

OmniGlobe, through its broadband division OmniGlobe Broadband Inc., already provides broadband access to local residents and businesses as well as municipal buildings in the area. Over the past six months, it has enhanced the existing infrastructure that was put in place in conjunction with Utilities Kingston, using new Motorola Point-to-Multipoint (PMP) wireless broadband technology. This expansion with the PMP 320 will extend coverage and deliver services using reliable technology in the licensed spectrum to the underserved hamlets as well as the many cottages and campsites dotted around the lakes.

Due to the rugged terrain and hilly landscape, the broadband service will not be accessible everywhere.
