Once the cheering stops, what's next? Training elite athletes for life after sport.
TORONTO, Sept. 12, 2012 /CNW/ - As the world's best arrive home from London, Adecco, through our Athlete Career Program, gears up to help athletes further their training, not for competition, but for life after sport.
Training to be a world-class athlete is demanding and leaves little time to gain traditional experience through part-time jobs. Some athletes feel that this negatively positions them for career options when ultimately they do retire from sport. Adecco supports athletes through this transition by providing them with the tools they need to successfully source employment, assisting them in identifying transferrable skills and providing them with key skills through workshops on networking, resume development and interview preparation.
Within Canada, Adecco has been actively engaged in supporting elite athletes through participation in this program with the Canadian Paralympic Committee.
"It is often difficult for athletes to earn an income and develop a career while they are training and competing," said Shari Angle, Vice President, Talent and Communications for Adecco Canada. "Adecco's Athlete Career Program is designed to prepare them for a successful transition from sport so their post-sport endeavours are as rewarding and enriching as their athletic careers."
The Athlete Career Program answers many pressing questions with tangible solutions:
- What can I do today that will enable me to more easily transition into the workforce without jeopardizing my training?
- What careers am I suited for?
- How can I apply my attributes as an athlete to obtain a job built on my strengths?
- How can I build a good resume when all my experience is in sport?
