Support the children of Quebec by voting for your favourite choirs!
MONTREAL, March 17, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The voting period for the Sing for Sainte-Justine with Céline Dion contest is now officially open. The CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation encourages everyone to support the children of Quebec by logging on to healingmorebetter.org to cast their vote for their favourite choirs by April 30. Some one hundred seventy-four (174) choirs from across Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick are joining voices to support this very worthy cause and compete to win the one-of-a-kind opportunity to share their passion with international superstar Céline Dion. Each vote will raise $5 for the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation.
"It really warms my heart that so many choirs accepted the invitation that Sainte-Justine and I extended. There's no better way for anyone to show how much they love children than by putting their voices together to support them, and I'd like to share all of that love with you today," says Céline Dion, honorary lifetime patron of Sainte-Justine. "From the bottom of my heart I wish to thank those who are helping build the healthiest future possible for the children of Quebec."
Objective: 200,000 votes for the well-being of children
The CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation is aiming for 200,000 votes by the end of the contest to help support its major Healing More Better campaign. The money raised will go to funding research and to continue delivering world-class care at the largest mother-child university hospital centre in Canada. And with over 50% of the patients admitted to the CHU Sainte-Justine living outside Montreal, the funds raised during the contest will benefit all children in Quebec.
"The public's response to this invitation has been overwhelming," says singer-songwriter Gregory Charles. "I hope people will show the same level of enthusiasm when it comes to supporting the choirs. Voting for your favourite choirs is a great way of showing the children in your community that you care, and that you really want to help," he said.
The "Jury's Favourite" award
While the public's vote will determine the winning choir, the jury will have the all-important task of choosing a second winner - the "Jury's Favourite" - from the top 25 entries based on online votes. Head judge Gregory Charles and fellow judges Claude "Mégo" Lemay, Céline Dion's well-known bandleader, and popular soprano Nathalie Choquette will decide as a group which choir gets the award based on the quality of their vocals (50%) and stage presence (50%). The names of the winners and further details concerning the private event with Céline Dion will be announced on May 7.
The CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation would like to thank its major media partners, Québecor and Cogeco, for their generous contribution of free advertising to help ensure the success of this contest.
