One: the Body, Mind & Spirit channel acquires Britain's Missing Top Model for
Canadian premiere
The award-winning six-part series will make its Canadian television premiere on One in early 2010.
Britain's Missing Top Model sets out to confront the stereotypes of the fashion industry and redefine our culture's concept of beauty. Eight young women, all aspiring models with physical disabilities, compete for the chance to be featured in a leading British fashion magazine.
The women must complete a variety of assignments, from modeling lingerie to mastering the catwalk, while confronting the far greater challenge of breaking down barriers and overcoming deep-seated prejudices.
Said Mark Prasuhn, Chief Content Officer and Chief Operating Officer for One's corporate parent, S-VOX: "Britain's Missing Top Model encourages us to put aside our preconceptions - to stop viewing people with disabilities solely in terms of the challenges they face, but rather to see them as whole individuals, each with his or her own unique character and potential. This series is a wonderfully appropriate addition for a network dedicated to exploring personal growth and spiritual well-being."
Britain's Missing Top Model won the Factual Media Award at Great Britain's RADAR (Royal Association for Disability Rights) People of the Year Human Rights Awards in 2008, and was nominated for the Royal Television Society award for Best Constructed Factual Series in 2009.
One: the Body, Mind & Spirit channel (www.onebodymindspirit.com) is a unique digital television service that offers programming devoted to wellness, personal growth and spiritual health.
