One York Street debuts Infinite Energy art installation, a Canadian first
Menkes proud to showcase sculpture of internationally acclaimed artist Mariko Mori
TORONTO, Oct. 19, 2018 /CNW/ - Menkes Developments Ltd is pleased to announce that One York Street is now home to Infinite Energy II by world-renowned Japanese artist Mariko Mori. This is Mori's official debut of the exclusive piece on Canadian soil.
Infinite Energy II showcases floor-to-ceiling spirals. Constructed of fibreglass, foam, acrylic mirror, aluminum, cable with an LED light control system, the installation gives guests the illusion of a never-ending work of art.
The artist, and daughter of an art historian and an inventor, made her name with monumental pieces which have been exhibited in museums worldwide including the Guggenheim Museum in New York, Royal Academy of Arts in London and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.
According to Mori, the piece represents the energy flow of life and endless renewal of invisible energy.
"The installation Infinite Energy reflects our common faith of endless renewal and a regenerating force for life, all from the primal particles to the multi-universe, it will reach the limitless sky of our mind."
"We wanted to showcase a really unique piece that would not only attract attention with its stunning design but also really compliment One York Street's beautiful floor-to-ceiling glass lobby, said Peter Menkes, President of Commercial/Industrial at Menkes. "We are so proud to feature the work of such a critically acclaimed artist and we think One York Street will serve as a great home for it."
Completed in 2016, the 35-storey, Class AAA development is connected to Toronto's PATH network and also features a restored piece by the international-renowned graffiti artist known as Banksy.
