As Canada Day Approaches, JUST EAT Shares Poutine Stats & Facts
TORONTO, June 29, 2016 /CNW/ - When it comes to true patriot food love, Canadians really do crave poutine.
According to JUST EAT, in the past year alone, Canadians ordered close to 100,000 orders of restaurant-quality poutine –- far exceeding the poutine demand in other parts of the globe.
Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa are home to the most devoted poutine fans in our home and native land. Rounding out the top 10 poutine ordering cities? London, Kingston, Hamilton, Halifax, Kitchener, Waterloo and Vancouver.
Deli Plus, Toma Burger Addiction Most Popular Poutine Delivery Champs
That might be why JUST EAT is naming Montreal's Deli Plus as its reigning poutine champion for 2016. The chefs and drivers at this Montreal institution fulfill more delivery poutine orders than any other restaurant in Canada. In Toronto, Toma Burger Addiction is tops for poutine – and another Montreal contender, Poutine en Folie takes third.
"Friday and Saturday evening is the magic hour when Canadians in all cities are most likely to yield to the call of the curd," jokes Daniel Tallon, Marketing Director, JUST EAT. Tallon says that's consistent with the overall tendency to order-in healthier options on weekdays and then indulge during the weekend.
Tradition Trumps Trend
From a trend perspective, Canadians are poutine purists vs adventurists, says Tallon. Traditional gravy and cheese curd poutines are ordered about 75% of the time. Gourmet versions of Canada's unofficial dish, including: pulled pork and chicken, Italian, Greek and Cajun options – make up roughly a quarter of total orders.
