Only nine days left to submit a nomination for the 2012 Rights and Freedoms Prize

MONTREAL, July 4, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse is issuing a reminder that July 13^th is the deadline to submit a nomination for the 2012 Rights and Freedom Prize.

"The Commission invites all individuals and organization who are making a difference in their communities and are committed to the defence and promotion to human rights and youth rights to send a nomination form," said Gaétan Cousineau, president of the Commission.

This year, Mr. Cousineau will chair the jury which also includes 2011 Prize winner Manon Barbeau of the Wapikoni Mobile and the Commission's first employee, Monique Rochon.

Since 1988, the Commission has awarded the Rights and Freedoms Prize each year to an organization or an individual as a public recognition for exceptional achievement or commitment to the defence of human rights and freedoms. The award ceremony usually takes place in Montréal in December.

Over the past five years the Prize has been awarded to the Wapikoni Mobile - an organization which gives young Aboriginals the opportunity to express themselves through video and music -, the Tolerance Foundation, the Regroupement des organismes Espace du Québec, the Honourable Juanita Westmoreland-Traoré of the Québec Court and to Laurent McCutcheon, president of Fondation Émergence.

How to submit a nomination

Organizations or individuals who wish to submit a candidacy must send the duly completed nomination form along with a two-page letter of intent describing the project, its impacts and why that person/organization is worthy of recognition. If applicable, budget information can be included. The nomination form is available for download from the Commission's website at www.cdpdj.qc.ca.

In a sustainable development effort, the Commission is urging individuals and organizations to submit nominations either by e-mail, on CD or on a memory stick. However, it will continue to accept nominations by mail.

The deadline is Friday, July 13, 4 p.m. Completed nomination forms along with the required materials can be sent to or hand-delivered to the Commission's headquarters located at:
