Ontarians elect New Democrat MPPs to deliver results
Voters send a clear message to arrogant Liberal government
WINDSOR, ON, Aug. 1, 2013 /CNW/ - New Democrat Leader Andrea Horwath says that today's by-election results showed that Ontarians are tired of arrogant Liberal government and getting behind New Democrats to offer leadership that delivers results.
"Tonight Ontarians said they're tired of arrogant government that takes them for granted. They want leadership that delivers results and they've sent fantastic New Democrat MPPs to Queen's Park to do exactly that," said Horwath.
Horwath welcomed Percy Hatfield and Peggy Sattler to the New Democrat Caucus at Queen's Park. The newly elected New Democrats bring proven leadership to their new roles at Queen's Park. Hatfield, the MPP-elect for Windsor-Tecumseh, brings a wealth of experience as a City Councillor and media personality to his new role at Queen's Park. Sattler, a small businesswoman and former Chair of the Thames Valley District School Board, is the MPP-elect for London West.
Horwath thanked candidates Adam Giambrone in Scarborough-Guildwood, PC Choo in Etobicoke Lakeshore and Bronwyn Funiciello in Ottawa South for running strong campaigns that focussed on the issues that mattered to people.
New Democrats showed gains in ridings across Ontario, despite a cynical attempt by the Liberal government to time elections when many families would be on vacation.
"New Democrats are ready to roll up their sleeves and deliver for people who desperately need good jobs, reliable healthcare, and accountable government," said Horwath.
