Ontarians most likely to open their doors to all during holiday season
Study conducted by BOMBAY SAPPHIRE examines how and with whom Ontario celebrate the holiday season
TORONTO, Nov. 6, 2013 /CNW/ - Whether it's a work party, family gathering or festivities with friends, Ontarians love to celebrate the holidays together. The vast majority of Ontarians spend the holiday season with family (83 per cent) and close friends (54 per cent); however, when compared to the rest of the country, they are still more likely to open up their holiday celebrations to their extended group of friends (20 per cent) and colleagues (12 per cent).
Regardless of who they are hosting, Ontarians want make sure their party leaves guests feeling festive. When it comes to being the host-with-the-most, Ontario residents identified three things are being key factors for success above all others: food (92 per cent), music (59 per cent) and, of course, a good selection of alcoholic drinks (56 per cent).
"With all the celebrations that occur during the holiday season and the importance Ontario residents place on a good bar line-up, it's no surprise that 39 per cent agree they consume more cocktails during the holiday season compared to any other time of year," said Troy Gilchrist, winner of the GQ/Bombay Sapphire 2013 Most Imaginative Bartender Competition Ontario and mixologist at Harbour Sixty Steakhouse.
The holiday season is the perfect time to expand your bar menu with some seasonal flavours and introduce your guests to some new cocktails they will love. To help Ontarians build out their cocktail list, BOMBAY SAPPHIRE has teamed up with Gilchrist to develop cocktail recipes tailored to the tastes and preferences of Ontarians.
Sapphire in a Pear Tree: Once the party starts, no host wants to be stuck behind the bar, which is perhaps why a third (36%) of Ontarians prefer simple cocktails. This easy-to-make recipe will make serving guests effortless, while at the same time infusing your holiday celebration with a bit of true Canadiana - maple syrup. With half (49 per cent) of Ontarians preferring sweet cocktails to any other flavour profile, having this recipe on your bar menu will help ensure your guests find a cocktail they will want to drink all night. Bombay Buttered Toddy: Every host wants to ensure they have something on their menu that will please all their guests and this recipe is just that - a balanced blend of the three ingredients Ontarians say they are most interested in trying in a cocktail this holiday season: Eggnog (38%), Apple Cider (37%) and Butter Rum (30%). Offering this recipe as a welcome cocktail for your guests will help warm them up and get them in the festive spirit from the moment they arrive. Sapphire & Saints: Nothing says a holiday celebration like popping a bottle of champagne. With 41 per cent of Ontarians stating they like to include "bubbly" in their holiday entertaining, this recipe allows hosts to get creative and provide their guests with a drink they're sure to remember all year long. |
"The basis of any good holiday cocktail is a spirit that is uniquely refined and has a delicately balanced flavour profile, such as BOMBAY SAPPHIRE Gin," says Gilchrist. "It truly is the ultimate spirit to marry with a wide variety of ingredients, allowing even the most inexperienced cocktail creators to appear as master mixologists to their guests."
Whether you're a master in mixology or cocktail creator in training, taking care of guests goes beyond providing them with delicious cocktails. Being the perfect host also includes catering to those who either don't consume alcohol or are acting as the designated driver for the night. This can be done by providing a variety of non-alcoholic drinks that are still festive and fun and by ensuring that all of your guests have a safe way home by calling taxis and having public transportation schedules readily available.
