Ontario children closing in on 1-million minutes of reading with the TVOKids
Reading Challenge
- TVOKids encourages more children to add their reading minutes at tvokids.com
TORONTO, Aug. 18 /CNW/ - At 900,000 minutes and counting, children across the province are closer than ever to reaching one million minutes of reading as part of the TVOKids Reading Challenge! The excitement is building after kids read a remarkable 100,000 minutes in one week during TVOKids Book Week from August 9-13.
With school out for the summer, the TVOKids team wants to keep children reading in their free time as they work toward the goal of reading one million minutes. From books and comics to street signs and menus, kids can always find something to read. After reading, they can visit tvokids.com and log their reading time. Every minute they record makes the challenge meter rise! Children who participate in the challenge are entered to win a weekly book pack, and they can watch their name appear online when they add minutes at tvokids.com.
During Book Week in The Space, TVO's live, hosted afterschool program block, on-air hosts Mark and Kara built momentum all week long by talking to children about books and reading with web polls, games, book reviews and call-ins.
"Even though it was the middle of summer, the kids embraced our Reading Challenge. They not only started reading more, they read 100,000 minutes in one week which is truly amazing!" says Marney Malabar, Executive in Charge of Production, The Space.
It's not too late for kids to join in the fun of the TVOKids Reading Challenge. More readers are needed to complete the final 100,000 minutes and celebrate one million minutes of reading.
