Funds Will Maintain Stability and Access for Patients and Clients
TORONTO, Feb. 25, 2016 /CNW/ - Today, the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) welcomed the 2016 Ontario Budget, calling it positive news for Ontario's hospitals and the health care system.
"Today's investment will go to support frontline care and help to keep wait times low, maintain access to elective surgery and ensure that important health service programs are maintained," said OHA President and CEO Anthony Dale. "Ontario hospitals have been relentless in further improving their performance and have developed strong partnerships with government and other providers in an effort to create a better experience for patients and clients across a range of services."
Ontario's health care system is undergoing a period of intense transformation and hospitals are under enormous pressure to do more with less funding to ensure access to care. During this period of system change, hospitals have been playing a leadership role by providing constructive ideas and advice to ensure effective implementation, focused always on patient and client need.
"Today's budget announcement will help to ensure stability within Ontario's health care system during the upcoming period of health system restructuring," said Dale. "After four years without an increase in base operating funding, this is a welcome announcement for patient care and will protect the gains that have been made with respect to access and frontline services."
Over the last year, the OHA has been working closely with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care in an effort to work collaboratively to enhance health system funding reform. While still in its early days, the OHA, Ministry and Local Health Integration Networks have established a joint work plan to strengthen and improve the design and implementation of the hospital sector's funding methodology.
While individual hospital allocations are not yet known, Ontario hospitals will continue to work hard to support the government in meeting its financial objectives through greater efficiencies, while also enhancing quality of care.
