Ontario Liberals turned out in large numbers at Leadership Election Meetings to elect delegates for the January 25-26 leadership convention
TORONTO, Jan. 13, 2013 /CNW/ - Liberal members voted in Central, Eastern and Northern regions on Saturday, January 12. The remaining 70 Leadership Election Meetings will be held today.
"It's great for the party and the province to see so many people turning out to take part in the Ontario Liberal leadership," said Yasir Naqvi, Ontario Liberal Party President. "This is another important step in the process of party renewal and electing a new party leader and Premier."
Each riding association elects 16 delegates to attend the convention and vote for party leader, each student club elects eight delegates and each women's club elects one delegate.. To be elected leader, a candidate must receive votes from 50 per cent plus one of elected and ex-officio delegates. (primarily current and former Liberal MPPs, current Ontario MPs and senior party officials.)
The convention takes place the weekend of Friday, January 25, at Ryerson University's Mattamy Athletic Centre at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto.
