TORONTO, Nov. 1, 2017 /CNW/ - Today at Queen's Park, MPPs from all three parties partnered with Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) to kick off Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week and to highlight the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning.
"Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week is an excellent opportunity to talk about this silent killer. Despite the serious threat of carbon monoxide poisoning, many Ontarians do not have working carbon monoxide alarms in their homes," said Kim Donaldson, Vice-President Ontario, IBC. "IBC is proud to work with all three parties in the Legislature to inform Ontarians how they can take action to protect themselves and their families."
IBC delivered a carbon monoxide alarm to each MPP. As part of their campaign to raise awareness about the need for carbon monoxide alarms in all homes with a fuel burning appliance or attached garage, IBC has so far donated over 700 alarms to fire departments across Ontario, and will be donating more in the coming months.
Ontario law requires that carbon monoxide alarms be installed in all residential dwellings that contain at least one fuel-burning appliance (e.g., gas water heater or gas furnace), fireplace or an attached garage.
