Ontario Nurses' Association Public Health Nurses Reach Tentative Agreement With Regional Municipality of York

NEWMARKET, ON, Feb. 2, 2018 /CNW/ - Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) President Vicki McKenna, RN, says that Public Health Nurses working for the Regional Municipality of York have reached a tentative two-year deal.

"We are very pleased that our Public Health Nurses will be able to continue working to keep their community healthy and safe," said McKenna. "ONA members will vote on the deal this evening and ONA is recommending ratification. The employer will hold its ratification vote on February 15th."

McKenna noted that this was a difficult round of negotiations, and says that the close to 250 Public Health Nurses remained optimistic that a negotiated contract could be reached. "As nurses, our priority is the people in our community. Reaching this agreement ensures that the Region of York will continue to receive the highly valuable services of our Public Health Nurses, uninterrupted."

ONA is the union representing 65,000 registered nurses and health-care professionals, as well as 16,000 nursing student affiliates, providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
