Ontario Police Chiefs Launch Province-wide Crime Prevention Campaign
"Crime Prevention... It Starts With You!"
OAKVILLE, ON, Feb. 19, 2013 /CNW/ - The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) today launched its 2013 Crime Prevention Campaign which seeks to raise public awareness about personal responsibility when it comes to preventing crime.
"Ontario police leaders and our officers believe that preventing a crime before it happens rather than having to deal with the consequences of crime is always the best way to keep our communities safe. Everyone has a role to play in stopping crimes from occurring," said Deputy Chief Andrew Fletcher (Halton Regional Police Service), Chair of the OACP Crime Prevention Committee.
The campaign focuses on a broad range of crimes that impact citizens across the province: on-line fraud, identification theft and other cybercrimes, auto theft, break-and-enters, etc. These types of crimes can victimize anyone, anywhere. A new crime prevention booklet is being made available to members of the public though police services which contains helpful crime prevention tips and information.
"Police officers work hard with members of the community, crime prevention organizations, businesses, schools, and governments to promote crime prevention as a crime fighting solution," said Deputy Chief Fletcher. "This campaign is an invitation for everyone to join their police service in making our communities safe."
This OACP campaign is made possible through the support of a number of partners: The Ontario Lottery & Gaming Corporation, Interac Association, Symantec Canada, TitlePLUS/LAWPRO, The Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA), Via Rail Canada, Humber College, The Canadian Security Association (CANASA), Roy Speed and Ross Ltd. (Globali.com), Accident Support Services International Ltd., and Canpar.
