Ontario Public Service workers reach tentative agreement with Ontario Government
TORONTO, Jan. 9, 2013 /CNW/ - Unionized provincial government employees have reached a tentative agreement with their employer, the Government of Ontario.
The two-year collective agreement covers 36,000 direct provincial government employees.
OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas said he is pleased that the union was able to reach an agreement.
"We knew going into this round of negotiations that it would not be easy to get to a collective agreement," said Thomas. "The government made their fiscal situation clear, and our task was to preserve quality, professional public service jobs and services. I believe that this is what we accomplished."
Details of the agreement will not be made public until the affected members have had a chance to review the tentative collective agreement.
