Ontario's college and university students unite to increase participation in provincial election
TORONTO, May 16, 2014 /CNW/ - As the 2014 Provincial Election approaches, college and university students across Ontario prepare to head to the polls. To help students stay informed and encourage them to vote on June 12th, the College Student Alliance (CSA) and the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) have once again collaborated to launch the It's Your Vote website.
"During the summer months it's more difficult to get that face-to-face interaction with students," says Curtis Bell, President of the College Student Alliance. "Helping students make informed decisions is a responsibility that we take very seriously. We are happy to facilitate this process by launching our online campaign in partnership with OUSA and through our platform which highlights our 5 pillars: accessibility, accountability, affordability, quality and transferability."
The website, itsyourvote.ca, will host video updates, blogs, and information from both organizations to help students find out how and why they should be voting.
"College and university students are working together during this provincial election to ensure that post-secondary education is prioritized by all major parties," said Colin Zarzour, OUSA Steering Committee member and Academic Affairs Commissioner of the Alma Mater Society (AMS) of Queen's University. "Students recognize that an investment in post-secondary education is an investment in the social and economic prosperity of the province."
College and university students look forward to hearing more of what each political party has planned for investing in Ontario's post-secondary education sector. For more information please visit itsyourvote.ca.
The College Student Alliance and the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance represent over 270,000 college and university students at 28 student associations across the province.
