Ontario's doctors welcome new Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, Associate Health Minister and Parliamentary Assistants

TORONTO, June 27, 2014 /CNW/ - Ontario's doctors would like to welcome and congratulate the Honourable Eric Hoskins on his new role as Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, the Honourable Dipika Damerla on her new role as Associate Minister of Health and Long-Term Care (Long-Term Care and Wellness) and Indira Naidoo Harris and John Fraser on their new roles as Parliamentary Assistants to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

"On behalf of Ontario's doctors I would like to extend a warm welcome to Minister Hoskins and his team," said Dr. Ved Tandan, President of the Ontario Medical Association (OMA).  "It's an exciting time to be in health care and we look forward to working with all of you to continue building a better health care system for the patients of this province." 

The OMA would also like to thank the Honourable Deb Matthews for her hard work and contributions to Ontario's health care system and patients during her time as Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.  We wish her well in her new role.

During the provincial election campaign the OMA surveyed all candidates and parties about their support for six key policies to improve patient care including strategies around: end of life, health human resources, mental health, connectivity and communications, stronger tobacco measures and obesity.

"We know that eighty-seven percent of Ontarians believe that health care is an important issue," said Dr. Tandan.  "Let's keep working together to build a stronger health care system for all our patients - it's what all Ontarians deserve."
