TORONTO, Nov. 9, 2013 /CNW/ - Michael Nicula, OPC Party Leader and #TorCen By-Elections Candidate focuses his campaign on Anti-Corruption, also OPC's Political Platform top issue. Canadians are fully aware that corruption affects all Government levels, recent Federal Political Scandals such as Senators' fraud allegations, Conservative Party's Robocalls, 'In and Out', Fighter Jet scandals, Liberals' Sponsorship scandal, but also Provincial and local level corruption scandals such as Ontario's power plant scandal, other cases revealed by Charbonneau's commission and by Montreal's mayoral office mess. Not to mention Toronto Mayor's disgraceful upcoming early exit.
OPC's Platform proposes simple, realistic solutions to drastically reduce corruption: Accountability, Transparency and Competence through new legislation and not just simple words and promises this time. Accountability can be achieved by removing the immunity protection of elected officials and a signed, enforceable Accountability Oath taken by all Candidates, compelling them to act in accordance with voters' will, not theirs or someone else's. In the Internet era, Transparency can be easily achieved by publishing absolutely all government documents, contracts, invoices, expense reports, meeting minutes. Lastly, Competence can be achieved by having all elected officials undergo training in public affairs, with mandatory examination before taking office. These three measures will bring all public affairs under the voters' scrutiny and will spare them of broken promises.
Michael Nicula, OPC Candidate: "Economic growth, prosperity, social justice, better healthcare and social assistance programs, improvement of our infrastructure, healthcare, education and all other usual elections promises are just consequences of good governance, which cannot come from a corrupt government. Let's eliminate corruption, and all these goals will be naturally achieved."
Aside from Anti-Corruption, OPC's Candidate will bring up in the upcoming public debates other top issues: the need for national dialogue and strategies on Infrastructure, Environment, Healthcare and Education. 'Action for Proportional Representation' is our newest initiative, and Michael will point out how the big parties shamefully fail to replace the 'First-Past-the-Post' system which clearly serves them but is so undemocratic that currently we have a 'majority' Conservative government based on the vote of less than 25% of eligible Canadian voters! And that needs to change.
