Super Expo-sciences Hydro-Québec, 2014 Québec Final is off to a great start!
The opening of the event, which was attended by Marthe Poirier, Science Fairs National Co-ordinator, and Luc Langevin, Hydro-Québec Science Fairs provincial spokesperson was also the scene of official congratulations to the winners of the 12 regional Hydro-Québec First Prizes.
"Every year, more than 15,000 young people aged 20 and under take part in Hydro-Québec Science Fairs. Creating a Science Fair project takes perseverance, motivation, creativity, ingenuity and, above all, lots of passion! Making it to the Super Expo-sciences Hydro-Québec, 2014 Québec Final is therefore an achievement that deserves attention," said Ms. Poirier. "I'd also like to congratulate those young people who did so well at the regional level by earning the highest award, the Hydro-Québec First Prize. The CDLS-CLS Network is proud to co-ordinate programs that enable the next generation of scientists to excel!"
"Though the Super Expo-Sciences Hydro-Québec is the highlight of the provincial competition, it is actually the beginning of a long and exciting adventure for everyone involved. Hydro-Québec is proud to support some15,000 students who participate each year in one of the competition's Québec finals. As a sponsor of the event for more than 10 years, the company is delighted to present the next three editions of Expo-Sciences, so we can continue the adventure together" said Ms. Marie-José Nadeau, Executive Vice President – Corporate Affairs and Secretary General, Hydro-Québec.
100 must-see science projects
The best 100 projects were chosen from among those featured at the 12 Regional Finals held throughout Québec. These projects fall into three categories – Design, Experimentation and Study – and were produced as solo or duo efforts in one of the seven following fields: Biotechnology, Engineering and Computer Sciences, Human and Social Sciences, Physical Sciences and Mathematics, Health Sciences, Earth and Environmental Sciences, and Life Sciences.
The projects cover a range of topics that are of great concern to today's youth and often straight from the headlines. Visitors will also find answers to issues such as "Will there be a shortage of drinking water?," "Is the 'man flu' a myth?," and "A cure for cancer." Almost anything from everyday life can serve as the inspiration for a great Science Fair project and make for an electrifying visit!
Be on hand as nearly $270,000 in prizes are awarded
On Sunday, April 13, you're invited to attend the awards ceremony, where entrants will receive a total of nearly $270,000 worth of prizes. The ceremony will be held from 1:30 to 3:45 p.m. at the Château Royal convention centre in Laval.
