OpenText Proud to Be Named One of Canada's Top 100 Employers
Canada's largest software company and the global leader in Enterprise Information Management is chosen by Mediacorp for offering employees an exceptional workplace
WATERLOO, Ontario, Oct. 21, 2013 /CNW/ - OpenText™ (NASDAQ: OTEX, TSX: OTC), the global leader in Enterprise Information Management (EIM), today announced it has been recognized by Mediacorp Canada, Inc., as one of the "Top Employers in Canada" for 2014.
As part of the "Canada's Top 100 Employers" project, the national competition awards Canadian employers for their leadership in the creation of exceptional workplaces for employees. OpenText's selection as one of the Top 100 Employers in Canada was announced in a special section of The Globe and Mail today.
"Our employees thrive on the discovery of new opportunities, the benefits of collaboration, and the excitement of innovation. They want to leverage their knowledge and creativity to help our over 50,000 global customers take full advantage of the power of enterprise information management," said Mark J. Barrenechea, President and CEO, OpenText. "We are honored to have been selected as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers. I am very proud of our employees and am pleased that OpenText continues to be a place where people are excited to work, learn and grow their careers. We look forward to continuing our role as a leading Canadian employer for many years to come."
To develop this year's Top 100 list, Mediacorp examined the recruitment histories of over 75,000 employers across Canada that it tracks for its widely-used job search engine, Eluta.ca. From this initial group, editors invited 25,000 employers across the country that created new opportunities in the past year. Employers completed an extensive application process that included a detailed review of their operations and HR practices, comparing them to others in their industry and region.
OpenText offers the stability of a blue chip and the spirit of a start-up. While it is big in many ways, the company has maintained an entrepreneurial culture common to many technology company "start-ups." It is viewed as a great place to work based on its focus on its employees, flexible work policies, competitive compensation and benefits programs, and the collaborative culture that the company maintains internally while being very competitive in the marketplace.
The diversity of the company's global workforce is also a key advantage, helping to foster innovative products and solutions for the company's customers. OpenText employs individuals of varied backgrounds, life experiences, and different perspectives. In addition, through attractive work environments and participative leadership, the company encourages employees to express their ideas and points of view to help address customer and business issues and opportunities.
"As the years go by, I increasingly believe that it really comes down to a question of leadership. Winning organizations consistently have leaders who recognize the importance of becoming an employer-of-choice, making it part of their organization's DNA from the shop floor to the boardroom," said Richard Yerema, author of Canada's Top 100 Employers and editorial manager of the competition at Mediacorp Canada Inc. "From company-paid pension plans to issues such as vacation allowances and family-friendly maternity leave, today's job seekers are more aware that significant differences exist among different employers in an industry. Leaders at the winning organizations have recognized this change and understand that their organizations need to improve constantly to attract and retain the best and brightest."
OpenText will be honored along with other employers selected for this year's list at a gala reception to be held at Toronto's Four Seasons Hotel on November 13, 2013. This year's conference features former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton plus an amazing line-up of speakers and case studies organized around themes Mediacorp be exploring for next year's competition.
