Helping Seniors with Yard Work
PICKERING, ON, Oct. 18, 2012 /CNW/ - Come rain or shine, OPG Operation Clean Sweep (OCS) volunteers will be helping senior homeowners with seasonal yard work.
The semi-annual program, started by employees at Pickering Nuclear four years ago, helps seniors in Pickering and Ajax who can no longer get their yard work done themselves. In the spring and fall, volunteers rake leaves, weed gardens, trim bushes, clear eaves troughs, and more.
"My grandparents were the ones that made me realize the need in our community, said Joe Amantea, one of the OCS organizers. "Without the family support given to them, they would not be able to continue to live on their own."
The community program, supported by more than 40 volunteers, is scheduled on Saturday, October 20, 2012.
