OPP Association Donates $5,000 to Philippines Typhoon Haiyan Relief
BARRIE, ON, Dec. 3, 2013 /CNW/ - The Ontario Provincial Police Association on behalf of its members has donated $5,000 to the Canadian Red Cross for the Philippines Typhoon Haiyan Disaster Relief Fund. The donation was a joint effort between the individual OPP Association branches across the province and the Association.
"So many lives have been deeply affected by this horrific disaster. The expediency of the recovery effort is dependent on the generosity of people throughout the world. Every dollar helps and we are very pleased to offer our assistance to the men, women and children of the Philippines", says Jim Christie, President.
Peter McGuinness, Leadership Volunteer for the Simcoe Branch of the Canadian Red Cross and Ontario Provincial Police retiree, said the agency has currently received over $21 million for the Philippines Typhoon Haiyan Disaster Relief Fund to date.
Although the recovery effort is well underway, more financial assistance is still needed. Eligible donations received at the Canadian Red Cross will be matched by the Government of Canada up to December 23, 2013. We encourage everyone to offer whatever support they can provide.
