OPP Charge Six Members of International Casino Cheat Team
ORILLIA, ON, Aug. 3 /CNW/ - One Toronto resident and five residents of South Korea have been charged following an investigation by members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Casino Rama Enforcement Unit assigned to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).
The accused were playing Midi Bac - a popular table game - and were observed card switching, resulting in losses to the casino totalling approximately $210,000 during a two day period from August 1 to 2, 2010.
As a result of further investigation, search warrants were executed on two (2) hotel rooms, resulting in the seizure of approximately $15,000.
Charged with one count each of Cheat at Play and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000.00 are:
- Jae Gook KIM, age 30 of Seoul, South Korea - Tae Sik KIM, age 55 of Seoul, South Korea - Un Gi KIM, age 37 of Toronto, Ontario - Sam Yeung KIM, age 45 of Seoul, South Korea - Seung Chul CHO, age 22 of Seoul, South Korea - Jong Yoon LEE, age 47 of Seoul, South Korea
All six accused are being held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on August 6, 2010.
The Investigations and Enforcement Bureau of the AGCO is headed by a Chief Superintendent of the OPP and comprised of OPP officers assigned to the Bureau as well as civilian inspectors. The Bureau's function is to assist the AGCO in fulfilling its regulatory mandate in relation to regulating the alcohol and gaming sectors in the province.
