ORILLIA, ON, Nov. 22 /CNW/ - As a result of a joint investigation with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an employee of the CRA with a number of offences following a two-year joint investigation.
The investigation by the OPP's Anti-Rackets Branch found that the CRA employee accepted money while holding himself out to be a consultant able to deal with taxpayer related matters.
The investigation also revealed that the accused had provided false information to the police in 2008 that caused the OPP to enter into an investigation into the activities of an elected Town of Caledon official. The investigation in 2008 determined that the allegations against the official were unfounded and that there was no evidence of misconduct.
Jeffrey Lee GRANGER, age 36 of Toronto has been charged with Breach of Trust, 2 counts of Fraud Over $5000, Secret Commissions, Uttering a Forged Document, Possession of Proceeds Obtained by Crime and Public Mischief, contrary to the Criminal Code.
GRANGER is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on December 30, 2010 in Newmarket.
