ORILLIA, ON, Nov. 6, 2012 /CNW/ - OPP Commissioner Chris Lewis strongly supports his colleague Jim Chu's position on Bill C-30, Protecting Children from Internet Predators Act, which is currently before federal Parliament. Chu is the Chief Constable of the Vancouver Police Department and the President of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police.
"There has been a lot of misinformation and miscommunication about this bill, which is really just intended to update laws that have not been changed since 1974. The goal of Canadian police chiefs is, as always, to protect victims while respecting the privacy rights of Canadians," says Lewis.
Chu recently wrote and sent an opinion piece on the proposed legislation to several Canadian newspapers. Lewis said he strongly supports the content of Chu's article and urged Canadian publications and websites to publish it so readers can participate in informed debate about Bill C-30.
