OPP INVESTIGATE FOUND HUMAN REMAINS - UPDATE

BRACEBRIDGE, ON, Sept. 3 /CNW/ - Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Bracebridge OPP Detachment with the assistance of the Bracebridge Crime Unit, Central Region Crime, and the Central Region Forensic Identification Services Unit (FISU) are continuing the investigation into found human remains in Bracebridge. The investigation, under the direction of Detective Inspector Guy Faucher of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) is now being conducted in conjunction with the Toronto Police Service (TPS) and Peel Regional Police Service (PRPS).
On Monday, August 30, 2010, human remains were found at a public boat launch on Morrow Road in the Town of Bracebridge.
On Wednesday, September 1, 2010, a post mortem examination of the body was performed at the Ontario Chief Coroners building in Toronto.
As a result, the body has been identified as 55 year old Paul MAASLAND of Toronto. Mr. MAASLAND had been reported as a missing person to the Toronto Police Service on Monday, August 30, 2010.
The results of the investigation to date have led investigators to conclude that Mr. MAASLAND was the victim of a murder.
Police are seeking the public's assistance in this investigation and are asking anyone with information into the activities and whereabouts of Paul MAASLAND and his vehicle between Sunday, August 29 and Monday, August 30, 2010 to contact the OPP investigators at (705) 645-2211.
The Peel Regional Police Service recovered Mr. MAASLAND's vehicle; a blue 2009 Subaru Forester plate number ATFY625 on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 in the Mississauga area.
