OPSEU achieves tentative four year agreement with the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation
TORONTO, Oct. 3, 2018 /CNW/ - OPSEU has reached a tentative deal with the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) that includes wage increases and not a single concession.
OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas said the four year deal was reached after just two days at the table. The fact the deal was swiftly hammered out shows the employer recognizes OPSEU members are a force to be reckoned with, Thomas said.
"The employer clearly remembered the incredible strength and resolve our MPAC members showed during the last round of bargaining," said Thomas.
"This round, the employer showed our members the respect they deserve by making a decent offer. My warmest congratulations to the bargaining team for getting such a good deal so quickly."
The four-year agreement provides annual wage increases of 1.9 per cent in each of the first three years and 1.75 per cent in the final year. All members will get $750 for health and wellness. It also includes a one-time payment for full-time members, to help offset the costs of affiliate and candidacy fees.
"This is a good deal for MPAC members, and it's also going to help all of the other OPSEU members going to the table under the Ford government," said OPSEU First Vice-President / Treasurer Eduardo (Eddy) Almeida. "It's a clear sign to the Premier that employers understand that the work our 155,000 members do is vital to communities across the province and they deserve to be paid fairly."
The 1,400 members will vote on this tentative agreement on Thursday, October 11th. The bargaining team will provide details to the members through conference calls next week.
"During the run up to negotiations, our members told us loud and clear that they wanted wage increases and no concessions" said bargaining team chair David Lynch.
