OPSEU President to appear on 104.9 JR-FM food drive broadcast
BROCKVILLE, ON, Oct. 5, 2017 /CNW/ - Warren (Smokey) Thomas, President of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) will join 104.9 JR-FM host Bruce Wylie live on the air for the Brockville Rotary Fall Food Drive on Friday, October 6 between 2 and 3 p.m.
"The success each year of the Rotary Food Drive shows just how generous and caring people are in this part of Ontario," says Thomas. "I'm proud that my union and I have been asked to help out and lend our support."
During the program, Thomas will talk about one of the biggest threats facing Ontario communities like Brockville: privatization.
"Privatization is hurting communities like Brockville because it takes our money and sends it to the people who work on Bay Street," Thomas says. "Ontario has never been wealthier than it is today, but the fact that we even need to do food drives is a sad sign that our wealth isn't been shared fairly."
To help raise awareness of the fight against privatization, Thomas will be one of the guest speakers at a special Town Hall on privatization on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 6:30 p.m. at the Brockville Convention Centre. For more information about the town hall, visit weownit.ca/Brockville.
