OPSEU VP to address Central West info picket
OAKVILLE, ON, July 14, 2017 /CNW/ - With bargaining at an impasse, workers with Central West Specialized Developmental Services (CWSDS) will hold an information picket on Monday to share their stories with the public and inform them of the importance and nature of the specialized work that they perform.
Eduardo (Eddy) Almeida, First Vice-President/Treasurer of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU), will be the guest speaker.

Some 340 workers at CWSDS belong to OPSEU Local 249. They support individuals with developmental disabilities who require intensive behavioural programs, interventions, and supports.
They have been without a contract since March 31, 2017. Conciliation is expected on August 8 to help kick-start talks after members massively rejected an offer of an across-the-board wage increase of 10 cents an hour in each of the two years of the contact.
"Information pickets help get the message out to the public about what workers need to provide the best possible services to the community," said Almeida. "Management isn't listening – but they had better start, because these workers aren't prepared to accept a dime an hour. Not now. Not ever."
