TORONTO, June 19, 2012 /CNW/ - Optimist Club Twin Cities, Waterloo Region will receive a Fire Safety Award from the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council at a ceremony on June 26, 2012 in Toronto. The annual Fire Safety Awards recognize outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario.
The Optimist Club Twin Cities is a non-profit service club whose goal it is to "bring out the best in kids." In the last 10 years, the Optimist Club Twin Cities has provided substantial financial assistance to Waterloo Fire Rescue's public education efforts.
A total of $50,000 has been donated to create and distribute fire safety school calendars to more than 4,000 children in Grades 1 through 4 in Waterloo. The books will be distributed to children at community events and during fire station tours.
"The Optimist Club Twin Cities, Waterloo Region is a committed partner to the well-being of children in the community and this has clearly been demonstrated through its consistent support of Waterloo Fire Rescue's public education programs," said Ted Wieclawek, Ontario Fire Marshal.
