Option consommateurs hails the passage of The Canada Consumer Product Safety
Act as a historic occasion for Canada's consumers
OTTAWA, Dec. 14 /CNW Telbec/ - Option consommateurs congratulate the members of the Senate of Canada for passing the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act last night.
The Act had had the support of all parties in the House of Commons before it reached the Senate. It replaces the 40-year old Hazardous Products Act and gives the government the power to protect Canada's consumers and their children through a comprehensive system of inspections, incident reports and, above all, mandatory recalls of products found to be unsafe.
"This is a historic occasion and a crucial victory for Canada's consumers, said Michel Arnold, the Executive Director of Option consommateurs. I urge the Minister to direct her officials to implement this important piece of legislation as soon as possible." He further noted that, with the passage of the Act, Canada will no longer be seen by her trading partners as a dumping ground for dangerous products.
