Organization of CANDU Industries congratulates CANDU Energy Inc. as the Enhanced CANDU 6 completes Phase 2 of Pre-Project Design Review
OCI Member companies are ready to build this advanced, safe and cost effective design and demonstrate Canada's leadership in the nuclear industry
PICKERING, ON, May 10, 2012 /CNW/ - The Organization of CANDU Industries (OCI) congratulates CANDU Energy Inc. on the successful completion of the Phase 2 Design Review for the Enhanced CANDU 6 (EC6) reactor. This important milestone for the EC6 design demonstrates that Canada has a market-ready Generation III reactor technology poised to continue the CANDU tradition of 11 previous CANDU 6 reactors that have earned an outstanding track record of performance and safety. The Enhanced CANDU 6 design is well suited to be the reactor of choice for Ontario's Darlington site. Just last week the Government of Canada announced its acceptance of the recommendations from a Federal Joint Review Panel on the environmental acceptability of the Darlington new nuclear project.
"OCI member companies, many of which are small and medium sized enterprises located here in Ontario, look forward to working with CANDU Energy Inc. to deliver this advanced, safe and cost effective design to markets in Ontario and offshore," said OCI President Dr. Ron Oberth. "This important milestone confirms the strength of the nuclear cluster in Ontario that can compete with the best in the world and attract investment and high quality sustainable jobs to Ontario."
