OSC Announces Events for Ontario Seniors' Month 2016
TORONTO, May 30, 2016 /CNW/ - The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is proud to recognize and celebrate June as Ontario Seniors' Month. As part of its ongoing work to prioritize the needs of Ontario's seniors, the OSC's Investor Office will be hosting a number of activities to connect with seniors across the province on the unique issues and challenges they face around money and retirement.
"Seniors are an extremely important and growing segment of investors whose needs and issues demand attention," said Tyler Fleming, Director of the OSC's Investor Office. "The OSC and the Investor Office are thrilled to be contributing to Ontario Seniors' Month with a range of activities that speak to the specific needs and concerns of our province's ageing population."
On June 9, 2016, the OSC's Investor Office will be holding a province-wide teletownhall for seniors to learn more about recognizing investment frauds and scams. Teletownhalls are a new way for the Investor Office to connect with thousands of Ontarians at a time. Similar in format to a call-in radio show, during the teletownhall, OSC staff provide information, answer questions and conduct live polls over the course of one hour. Visit the OSC in the Community Events web page to learn more about participating in the upcoming teletownhall.
Throughout the month, the Investor Office will also be hosting a number of events as part of the OSC in the Community initiative, an outreach program that takes the OSC's important regulatory mandate from Bay Street to communities across Ontario. OSC in the Community events give audience members an opportunity to ask OSC staff questions and get tips on protecting their money from investment fraud.
