OSC appoints Grant Vingoe as Vice-Chair
TORONTO, Aug. 14, 2015 /CNW/ - Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) Chair Howard Wetston today announced the appointment of D. Grant Vingoe as Vice-Chair to the OSC for a two year term, effective August 12, 2015.
Mr. Vingoe has been a partner with international law firms in Toronto and New York, most recently with Norton Rose Fulbright where he specialized in the regulation of financial institutions and capital market transactions. He is a former independent director of the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada and was Chair of its Corporate Governance Committee.
"Vice-Chairs serve the most senior advisory role within the Commission and are vital to ensuring we deliver on our mandate," said Howard Wetston, Q.C., Chair and CEO of the Ontario Securities Commission. "Grant's extensive experience as a leader on cross-border securities initiatives, along with his strong background in corporate governance and regulatory policy, make him the ideal candidate."
Mr. Vingoe is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School and received his LL.M. from the New York University School of Law. He has served as Counsel to the Toronto Stock Exchange and as guest lecturer at Osgoode Hall Law School as part of its LL.M. Securities Law Program. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association Subcommittee on Securities Regulation and the Canadian Centre for Ethics & Corporate Policy.
As the regulatory body responsible for overseeing the capital markets in Ontario, the OSC administers and enforces securities legislation in the province of Ontario. The OSC's statutory mandate is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices and to foster fair and efficient capital markets and confidence in capital markets.
