Osteoporosis Canada celebrates its 30th anniversary
TORONTO, June 15, 2012 /CNW/ - Join Osteoporosis Canada (OC) on June 17, 2012 as it celebrates 30 years of dedicated service to those with or at risk of osteoporosis. Established in 1982, the first organization in the world committed solely to bone health. Osteoporosis Canada remains the only organization in Canada with this primary focus.
Through its 22 chapters and network of health care professionals, OC disseminates information on building and maintaining bone health (nutrition, exercise and when needed, drug therapy), risk assessment, post fracture care, falls prevention and more.
As many as two million Canadians live with osteoporosis, a disease that causes bones to lose their strength, become thin, brittle and prone to fracture.
"We are proud to be celebrating 30 years of service, advocacy and education for osteoporosis and bone health," says Dr. Famida Jiwa, President and CEO of Osteoporosis Canada. "The longevity of Osteoporosis Canada is a testament and tribute to the hundreds of staff, volunteers and corporate partners that have worked tirelessly over these past 30 years. As we look ahead as an organization we commit to educate, advocate, support and fundraise so that the necessary and important work we do continues."
In the coming months, specifically during Osteoporosis month in November, there will be activities and celebrations marking this important milestone.
Osteoporosis Canada is the only national registered charity serving people who have, or are at risk for osteoporosis. The organization works to educate, empower and support individuals and communities in the risk-reduction and treatment of osteoporosis.
